Archer Gallegos • Staff Reporter Nov 10, 2022

This holiday season, there will be several chances for you to go out and listen to some live musical performances from several different symphony orchestras.

The Federal Way Symphony, The Northwest Symphony, Rainier Symphony, and Auburn Symphony are offering various winter themed musical shows.

The Federal Way Symphony

The Federal Way Symphony is now in its 40th year and was originally started by a group of local musicians and volunteers.

The next chance to attend a show is the Holiday Traditions Concert on December 3, which will be a joint production with the Federal Way Chorale, a local nonprofit choir.

After the new year, the Federal Way Symphony has a little something for everyone with a Big Band Concert, a Words and Music performance, and a 40th Anniversary celebration with musical pieces spanning three centuries.

Their new concert hall is the Federal Way Performing Arts & Events Center, which is easily accessible from Highline on the RapidRide A Line bus.

Tickets are $35. Military and senior tickets are $25. No student discounts are available, but youth tickets are free for 18 and under.

Their upcoming season is notably a classical selection, starting with Holiday Concerts on December 10 and 11.

All shows are located at the Foster Performing Arts Center in Tukwila. General admission is $20 and students are $14.

Auburn Symphony

Diversity is an important theme for the Auburn Symphony, the music director has worked to expand the representation of women and people of color both in the music and the musicians.

Chamber performances, small groups of about 4 people, are a common offering here and include different performances by a cellist, harpsichordist, and woodwind collection.

The chamber performance, Mountains: From the Urals to the Cascades, will be on Nov. 20 and feature percussionists plus a small group of violin, cello, and piano.

There will be a family-friendly holiday concert December 5 that includes classics, modern tunes by local composers, a sing-along, and even a live reindeer in the parking lot. Special guests include the Rainier Youth Choirs performing selections from the movie Home Alone and dancers from Evergreen City Ballet’s Nutcracker posing for photos.

For those with more modern tastes, Movie Mixtape in February will feature all film music from the ‘80s and ‘90s, such as Chariots of Fire, Jurassic Park, Forrest Gump, and Beauty and the Beast.

Tickets vary for general admission, however, student admission is $10-12 for nearly all performances.
