For the third year in a row, Highline volleyball reigns as they clinched the Northwest Athletic Conference West Region Championship. The Thunderbirds are currently 26-1 overall, 10-0 in the west region conference, and currently are on a 25-game win streak.
These ladies are leading the league in many individual statistical categories. Sophomore Aspen Olson is currently ranked second for hitting percentage, with a .84 hitting average. Along with Sophomore Madison Mamizuka who is ranked second for assists per set, with 9.89 assists per set.
As a team, they currently are ranked first overall in NWAC for hitting percent, with a .276 hitting percent.
Even after clinching the playoffs for the 2024 season, these ladies are still fighting on the court and giving it their all.
This past Friday, the Thunderbirds took on Centralia College, and came on top with a 3-1 win, adding on to the win streak for the season.
The team struggled in the beginning, coming short in the first set with a score of 19-25. However, this didn’t stop them. Highline was able to come back and win the next three sets with scores of 25-17, 25-14, and 25-16.
Top performers for the night included sophomore Halle Garrity, with 11 kills. Sophomore Destiny Labuanan came on top with 29 digs, the most of the entire match.
“I’m very grateful for my teammates and coaches and I’m so proud of our girls for maintaining such a successful season with a positive attitude,” said freshman Matilyn (Queen) Royal, speaking about how she felt about this season.
Volleyball will play their last regular season matchups vs. Green River CC on November 1, away, and Tacoma CC on November 6, at home.
