AI is revolutionizing, and replacing, jobs

Vinh Mai Staff Reporter Oct 17, 2024

With Artificial Intelligence (AI) evolving and becoming smarter, faster, and more integrated everyday, have you ever wondered if one day your job positioning might be at the risk of being replaced with AI resulting in you getting laid off?

In the article AI Job Loss: Shocking Statistics Revealed”  by Daniel L., he revealed that in 2023, 37% of companies that are using AI saw workers lose jobs. It is expected that in 2024 there will be another 44% expected more AI-related job cuts.

Sadly that’s the case with jobs like computer programers as generative AI tools, such as ChatGPT and Claude, become more advanced. These AI tools are so advanced that if you want specific codes from Java, Python, and Javascript, many AI tools will have no problem composing codes for those languages. With AI they can make quick and precise data analyses, reducing the need for human input.

Customer support is slowly getting replaced. These Chatbots will help virtually with answering customer questions and complaints since the AI are flexible with their time and customers can come in and ask questions or set up appointments anytime. We have even seen this in some restaurants having AI-powered-programs train robots as servers, delivering food to customer’s tables.

The manufacturing and assembly positions are also shifting toward the use of AI powered machines to perform tasks at a much faster speed and consistency. Tasks such as: assembling product, packaging, retrieving goods, and welding can all be performed at a greater precision and efficiency than humans making human-warehouse-workers less dependent.

Graphic designers are in direct competition with AI art generators such as AI tools from DALL-E and Gemini. These AIs are cheaper than most graphic designers would charge. Time plays an important role since emeritus.org states “a collection of AI-generated art can be created in seconds”  rather than “Most single digital collaterals take from 1 to 6 days” said VMG Studios.

Writers, actors, and other workers in the entertainment industry strike against the use of AI outside Paramount Pictures Studios in Hollywood.

Translation has been significantly impacted by AI (with Google Translate being the biggest) with them all being able to translate 243 languages all compact within mobile apps. This provided a real time translation making it cheaper to hire a translator.

In 2023 there was a 148 day strike at Paramount Pictures studio, as Hollywood screenwriters were fighting against the use of AI instead of using actual artists to create movie scripts. The main goal was to get the message that the threat of AI vividly cast the writers’ plight as a human versus machine clash.

Though, as jobs are getting replaced by AI this also creates new job opportunities since there has to be someone that trains and fine-tunes these tools by providing feedback and correcting errors for them to be able to run correctly.

As we could see these are some of the jobs that are majorly getting affected with the advancement with AI. As AI continues to evolve everyday, we could see in the near future that more jobs will become replaced with AI.
