From their commanding 4-0 victory against Green River on Sept. 31, to their remarkable 9-0 win over Grays Harbor on Sept. 2, the team consistently demonstrated their prowess on the field.

Their winning streak continued with victories against South Puget Sound, Pierce, and Centralia, among others. Despite encountering a few challenging matches, including a draw against Lower Columbia on Sept. 7, and Tacoma on Sept. 24, the team’s determination remained unwavered.

In the month of October, the Highline team continued to showcase their strength and resilience, securing victories over Green River, Grays Harbor, and Centralia. They concluded the regular season with a resounding 3-0 win against Tacoma on Oct. 26.

Amidst their successful season, the Highline women’s soccer team bid farewell to their former head coach, Tom Moore, who embarked on a new journey as the head coach at the Oregon Institute of Technology. However, the team eagerly welcomes their new head coach, Marco Monzon, who has an impressive background both as a player and a coach.

A native of Seattle, Monzon returns to Highline with a deep connection to the program. He played for the men’s soccer team for two years, serving as the team captain, and earning recognition as an all-star player. Following his collegiate career at Humbolt State College, Monzon pursued a semi-professional career with Oly Town FC and even played professionally in Sweden.

Transitioning from his playing days to coaching, Monzon has been involved with Dragons FC as a coach and has also offered private technical training. As the new head coach, Monzon brings his wealth of experience and a coaching philosophy focused on positional play and possession-based strategies.

Expressing his excitement for the upcoming season, Coach Monzon shares, “I’m thrilled to be here and get things started! This program has had a significant impact on my growth as a player and an individual. It’s an honor for me to return and share my experiences to help the next generation of players both on and off the field.”

With Monzon at the helm, the Thunderbirds look forward to building upon their successful 2022 season and continuing their pursuit of excellence in the 2023 season. The team is confident that under Coach Monzon’s guidance, they will be able to further enhance their skills and tactics, dictating the game through ball possession and teamwork.

As the new season approaches, anticipation is high as the Highline women’s soccer team, led by their talented new head coach, sets their sights on new achievements and success in the ever-competitive women’s soccer landscape.
