Destination Des Moines held the Waterland Art and Wine Walk last weekend, which helped highlight many small businesses and new artists in the area.
There were at least seven artists involved and 15 different businesses total that participated from the city of Des Moines.
The event, which was sponsored by Des Moines Legacy Foundation, John L. Scott real-estate, Port of Seattle, and the Waterland Blog, was held on Saturday May 13 and was widespread throughout the city as it started along Marine View Drive South and wrapped back around to 7th Ave S.
There were 178 tickets sold in total, 141 presale and 37 sold on the day of. Tickets, however, were not required for walking around to the businesses and looking at or buying the art; tickets were only required for the people who wanted to participate in the wine tastings.
Some of the featured beverages for the wine walk included Northwest wines, ciders, and other specialty drinks and wines.
Starting off strong in the event was the Waterland Arcade who hosted an artist by the name of Audrey Brandt. She sold and showcased some of her retro paintings and more.
The Eight Dive in Des Moines hosted Robert Dean who showcased and sold 3D Mixed Media art.
At Salon Michelle, Nicole Cleveland, a self-taught artist through the pandemic, sold and showcased landscape paintings.
A photographer by the name of Doug Early sold plenty of photos at Creole Soul; Creole Soul is a local Louisiana Kitchen in Des Moines. Doug Early’s art and photography can be found at: Doug Early’s website.
In the Mercantile, a new business to Des Moines, Dona Lewinger had her pastel art on sale. You can find and buy art from Lewinger here: Dona Lewinger’s website.
Anita Colby sold and showcased her jewelry, in John L. Scott. She not only makes jewelry, but also oil paintings and portraits. Click the link to see more art by Anita Colby: Anita Colby’s website.
Along with all the other artists who participated in the Waterland Art and Wine Walk event was Jenna Breachbiel. Breachbiel was hosted by Edward Jones; she had sold a few of her watercolor paintings. “I strive to create beauty out of the chaos,” she said.
