Black and Brown Summit returns to Highline

Danny Elmoussa Staff Reporter Dec 02, 2021

Highline’s annual Black and Brown Male Summit returns Dec. 11 to help young males of color recharge and reconnect.

The 12th annual event is for young people from ninth grade to college who identify as black and brown males, and who need to recharge or have questions around culture, connectivity, identity and community, organizers say.

Even though the event will be in person, there will still be COVID restrictions and regulations in place.

“The size of the event will be smaller, and making sure we are abiding by the COVID restrictions. This year, there will be no chaperone and parent breakout,” said the event’s main organizer, Rashad Norris, a local entrepreneur and Highline’s former director of community engagement.

Professor and online educator Conscious Lee will be the keynote speaker.

“He has the ability to connect with students to where it is culturally relevant and his delivery is well received from our youth,” said Norris.

“The goal of this event is for students to walk away with a plan and connectivity to other young men of color, connections to resources, and connection with great leaders,” Norris said.

The event will be in the Student Union on Dec. 11, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
